Dear NFL Players and Owners: Bite Me. With the rest of the world burning down -- recession, revolutions in the Middle East, revolutions in the Midwest, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, nuclear meltdowns...cats and dogs living together, and of course, Charlie Sheen -- could we at least have one thing go right? Can't we have the one thing we love more than any other (um, besides our significant others...sorry honey) there to count on? I guess not.
Well, The PFFL isn't going to take this lying down! As we mentioned a while back, we started a small Facebook Fan Page called, "NFL Fan Strike" with the idea of making damn sure the players and owners know that a lockout would cost them dearly. Well, now that the lockout has arrived, the numbers over at NFL Fan Strike are starting to swell, and I encourage all you pissed off NFL fans to join in. Check out the page if you are on Facebook, and give it a "like" to keep the momentum growing.
Now, what does all this lockout nonsense mean for the PFFL? Well obviously we can't schedule any drafts, which means we can't create league assignments, and generally means we're in a holding pattern. That said, we're still full-steam-ahead behind the scenes. The new website is in development right now, and we're targeting a late-April release at least for existing members.
This will very much be a work in progress, but the initial site will at least allow new users to sign up and get a team, and then we'll be cramming from April until September (umm...hopefully) to pack in as many features as possible before the season starts. We will still be using Yahoo this year because of the ability to pull data from that platform back into our site automatically, and won't look at building a full-scale application until next year. That said, the new site will represent a vast enhancement over the existing blog, and should make the upcoming season [sic] more fun, better managed, and just a lot cooler!
In the meantime, the NFL Fan Strike page is sending a deluge of new traffic to the PFFL Blog, so we've given the blog a little facelift and streamlined some of the content. One thing we've changed too is that we're now going to take signups be request or invitation only -- we want to focus on getting the best and most die-hard folks for now.
Stay tuned -- we'll be keeping the world up to speed on all things NFL Lockout while it goes on, while keeping our plans fluid so we'll be ready to roll as soon as they sort this damn thing out.
